Curriculum
Our Vision
At Coppice Farm Primary School, we provide an ambitious, knowledge-rich curriculum that enables all children aged 4-11 to become confident, compassionate and capable learners. Our curriculum is underpinned by our core values of unity, strength, motivation, positivity, resilience and creativity, and is designed around Rosenshein’s evidence-based pedagogical principles that ensure every child makes sustained progress.
INTENT
We intend for our curriculum to build secure, long-term learning through carefully sequenced knowledge and skills.
New learning is introduced in manageable steps with regular retrieval practice. We review previous learning before introducing new content, use systematic questioning and guided practice, and provide scaffolded support that enables high success rates. Teachers model explicitly and give immediate, actionable feedback. This approach develops strength as knowledge becomes secure, building from Foundation Stage 2 through Year 6.
We intend for our curriculum to develop independent, motivated learners.
We cultivate motivation through high expectations paired with appropriate scaffolding. Structured independent practice builds fluency, freeing cognitive capacity for deeper thinking and creativity. We foster resilience by teaching children that struggle is part of learning, celebrating effort and progress. Regular low-stakes retrieval practice builds confidence and success.
We intend for our curriculum to foster unity, cultural awareness and respect for diversity.
We intentionally design opportunities to explore diverse cultures, faiths and perspectives from across the UK and globally. Through all curriculum areas, children encounter varied human experiences that challenge stereotypes and build empathy. We promote unity by helping children understand both our shared humanity and what makes communities unique, preparing them as informed, respectful citizens.
We intend for our curriculum to be inclusive and ensure all children can access and excel.
Through positivity, we believe all children can achieve. High-quality first teaching, careful attention to cognitive load, and regular checking for understanding ensure barriers are removed. We use assessment to inform teaching and address gaps swiftly, maintaining high expectations for all including SEND and disadvantaged pupils.
